At the end of the last Harry Potter book, what are your thoughts on what was said about Snape?

I finally got around to reading it, and one thing that has kept me thinking about it was the comment that Snape was “probably one of the bravest men I ever knew”
What are your thought on this?
Hmm I was thinking it had more to do with his reasons for doing what he did, his motivation.
